Song of the Week

In search of the song of the week I decided to look at one of my favorite songs by David Crowder Band.  David Crowder Band has had many different hits on the radio.  Their recent song "How He Loves" is being heard all over the radio and in many churches.  They are also known for songs like "Wholly Yours" and "Everything Glorious." These songs have powerful words, and they convey a great message. I could have picked one of these as my song of the week, but I wanted something that is not as well known.  The song I picked from David Crowder Band is called "Obsession." Here are the lyrics:

What can I do with my obsession
With the things I cannot see
Is there madness in my being
Is it the wind that moves the trees?
Sometimes You're further than the moon
Sometimes You're closer than my skin
And You surround me like a winter fog
You've come and burned me with a kiss

And my heart burns for You
And my heart burns...Yeah
For you

And I'm so filthy with my sin
And carry pride like a disease
You know I'm stubborn, Lord, and I'm longing to be close
You burn me deeper than I know
And I feel lonely without hope
And I feel desperate without vision
You wrap around me like a winter coat
You come and free me like a bird

And my heart burns for You, You O Lord
And my heart... Oh it burns for you, For you
And my heart... Oh it burns for you, You O Lord

What is your obsession?  Is that one sin that you can't seem to give up? Is it something in your life that has become more important to you than serving God? If  it is one of those things we must get rid of it. Sins like these turn our focus off of God and towards something of this world. Our obsession should be Jesus and bringing glory to His name. Become obsessed.

Song of the Week

This week's pick is "What do I know of Holy" by Addison Road.  Here are the lyrics:

I made You promises a thousand times
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
I think I made You too small
I never feared You at all No
If You touched my face would I know You?
Looked into my eyes could I behold You?

What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

I guess I thought that I had figured You out
I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about
How You were mighty to save
Those were only empty words on a page
Then I caught a glimpse of who You might be
The slightest hint of You brought me down to my knees

What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of wounds that will heal my shame?
And a God who gave life "its" name?
What do I know of Holy?
Of the One who the angels praise?
All creation knows Your name
On earth and heaven above
What do I know of this love?

What do I know of You
Who spoke me into motion?
Where have I even stood
But the shore along Your ocean?
Are You fire? Are You fury?
Are You sacred? Are You beautiful?
What do I know? What do I know of Holy?

What do I know of Holy?
What do I know of Holy?

This is a very powerful song, and it draws us to examine ourselves. Verse two really speaks to me. How many times do we get caught up in giving generic answers about who God is?  Do we take the time to find out who He really is?  Let us discover how beautiful and amazing the God we serve is.
